The news just keeps rolling in today! BAFTA award winning writer Laura Anderson has joined our team and will be writing the 5th episode, following James T Harding’s “Revolution in a Teacup”.

Laura Anne Anderson is an Edinburgh based writer with a Masters in Screenwriting from Screen Academy Scotland. Her screenwriting includes the short films ‘Ladies Who Lunch’ and ‘We All Fall Down’, sketches for BAFTA award winning series 3 of CBBC show ‘OOglies’, and a feature film currently in development.

Laura is also an actor for the stage and screen, a journalist, and a writer of games, stories and novels. Her debut novel, a dark science fiction book for young adults, will be published later in 2016.

‘I am thrilled to be part of team Cops and Monsters, and think that the cast and crew of the series are doing amazing things for the genre and the Scottish screen community. It’s also a real pleasure to be able to write for something with such an amazing fan base, and I can’t wait to sink my teeth into the episode.’

We will reveal more about Laura’s upcoming episode in due course!

Writer’s Biography – James T Harding – Revolution in a Teacup

Screen Shot 2016-04-17 at 10.39.52

Our script editor James T Harding was earlier announced as the writer of our next episode, “Revolution in a Teacup”, which we will be crowdfunding to produce in May, aiming to shoot over 2 days in July.

James T Harding is a writer based in Edinburgh, UK. His previous writing credits include two episodes of Cupid of the Clyde (Subcity Radio, 2014), ‘The Secret’ (short film, 2012) and six episodes of Staircase 22 (Cherwell, 2011). He has an MA in Television Writing from Glasgow Caledonian University. As well as writing Episode 5 ‘Revolution in a Tea Cup’ for Cops and Monsters, he is currently developing a co-written TV series with the BBC Writersroom.
James’s non-writing career spans editorships of Broadway Baby and Stewed Rhubarb Press as well as social media for Touchpaper Television, the production company behind Being Human.
“If even a quarter of the excitement I’m feeling about Episode 5 makes it onscreen, it’ll probably be responsible for multiple coronary arrests,” said James. “The cast and crew are such a fantastic bunch, it’s a real treat to write for them. l feel like they could pull anything off. The producers said I’m allowed to feature a talking severed head… perhaps I’ve just gone power mad.”
“On a more serious note, now is not the best time to be emerging screen talent in Scotland – for actors, writers, and crew alike. Webseries like Cops and Monsters are providing fantastic opportunities for Scottish talent with an international outlook. The support the show has received from the public who donate to our crowdfunding campaigns is mind-blowing. I’m so grateful to everyone who helps make Cops and Monsters happen – we’re gonna blow your socks off!”

We are currently in pre-production of the next instalment, “Revolution in a Teacup”, which will see Sophie Aldred, Rachel Teate and Mhairi Calvey guest star alongside our series regulars. Crowdfunding will begin once we launch our latest episode throughout May and June, shooting this July in Glasgow.

Volume 1 comprises of “The New Recruit“, “In Crimson“, “Revolution in a Teacup” and two more, currently untitled episodes. “Preparing the Weapon” acts as a prequel to The New Recruit.

We’ve had a bit of an episode re-shuffle! Here is the viewing order of Cops and Monsters:

Episode 1 – The New Recruit
Episode 2 – Preparing The Weapon
Episode 3 – In Crimson (Coming Soon!)
Episode 4 – Revolution in a Teacup (In Pre-Production)

Episode 4 – “Revolution in a Teacup” – Is In Pre-Production!

Episode 4, “Revolution in a Teacup”, by James T Harding, is now in pre-production.

Following on from episode 3 (due for release in May!), Maya Hedges (Ellen Patterson) is on a rampage. The Cult of Many Faces (Billy Kirkwood) has stepped up his game of terror, striking at the heart of the PITS team, forcing Chief Inspector Norris (Simon Weir) to take action and bring in new recruit Grace Mackenzie, to assist the team. Meanwhile, Lady Sheena McDairmid (Sophie Aldred) is concerned that Alexis (Innes Anderson) is out of control and steps in to deal with the matter. Alexis however is caught struggling with her humanity when her twin sister, Zoe (Mhairi Calvey), emerges in an attempt to free her family from The Cult of Many Faces forever. The clock is ticking, and not everybody is going to make it out alive…

It is a fast paced, nerve wracking episode that will raise the stakes for everybody in the Cops and Monsters universe!

We’ll be shooting the episode over two days (probably in July!) in and around Glasgow, Scotland. We hope that all of our crew will be returning with our cast and we will be crowdfunding throughout May to ensure that we can afford to pay the team, costumes, props, special effects makeup, locations, equipment, visual effects, sound design, music composition and more! With your help we can make it happen.

Episode 4 Is Wrapped!

Screen Shot 2016-03-27 at 19.54.04

Episode 4, “In Crimson”, is officially wrapped!

After 2 days of filming, support from everybody who backed our Kickstarter campaign, and an extremely hard working cast and crew, we have finished filming episode 4 of our series.

Cast and crew worked tirelessly over two days to get all of our scenes filmed so we can now send them to our editor, Anne Nicholson, who will cut together the episode. Then it will be sent to Robert Newth who will add and mix in sound effects and compose the music as our visual effects artist Gareth Knight creates the effects to build into our near-future, sci-fi world.

Unfortunately due to unforeseen family issues, Sophie Aldred was unable to film her scenes, and as such, Scottish actress Karen Bartke replaced Sophie on the day. Karen is a long-time collaborator with the team and recently starred in the BBC Scotland comedy, “Scot Squad”. Karen has also just recently won awards for her work on BBC Radio Scotland, details of which can be found here.

Sophie will now be starring in episode 5, which we hope will go into production in July, crowdfunding depending.

We will be posting updates on our progress and we hope that episode 4 will be available to watch online by the end of April/beginning of May. We will be sharing official behind the scenes stills and video between now and the release of the episode on our site, Twitter and Facebook.

Episode 4 – Filming Has Begun!

Screen Shot 2016-03-19 at 21.57.56

Yesterday we officially kicked off filming on episode 4 of Cops and Monsters!

Cast members Kenny Boyle (Martin Carmichael) and Billy Kirkwood (The Cult of Many Faces) met for the first time as they filmed their scenes together for the episode on a quiet road in Partick, Glasgow.

New makeup artists Leah and Nadia joined us to make some gruesome makeup work on one of our stars while we worked out and filmed the scenes.

Our photographer Sonja was snapping away with a mix of publicity and behind the scenes stills and we will be sharing them with you soon.

Claire our producer has been working extremely hard to work within our budget to make sure costumes, makeup, props (and lunch for the crew!) is organised for next weekend’s shoot where we will be introducing new cast member Innes Anderson (Alexis) into the world of Cops and Monsters.

We’re cutting together a little teaser from yesterday’s footage and will have it online shortly!

Until next time…

Casting Announcement!

Screen Shot 2016-03-03 at 17.21.04

We are pleased to announce that Scottish actress Mhairi Calvey has joined our cast!

As episode 4 is currently in pre-production, due to shoot on March 19th and 26th, we’re looking slightly ahead as we build our Volume 1 arc, consisting of episodes 4-7.

Mhairi will make her debut in episode 5, which will be written by James T Harding. All we can say at this stage is that Mhairi is playing Zoe, a conflicted vampire with a troubling past who finds herself embroiled with Maya Hedges (Ellen Patterson) and the PITS team.

Mhairi is best known for playing Young Murrin in the blockbuster “Braveheart”, “Any Minute Now” and “Gemini”. She also has a full slate of films this year and 2017!

Here’s what Mhairi had to say about joining our series:

I’m delighted to be working with Fraser and his team again. It’s important to me to support other Scottish film makers and having previously worked with Fraser I know he runs a professional set and has a great team behind him. I cant wait to work with them all again.

We hope to bring new updates soon but in the meantime you can watch ALL of our current videos below:
