Doctor Who’s Sophie Aldred Returns!

We are delighted that Sophie Aldred is returning to the world of Cops and Monsters, playing the role of vampire Queen, Lady Audrey McDairmid, in our audio series “The Year of Peace”.

Born and raised in South East London, Sophie studied drama at the University of Manchester and worked in children’s theatre, working mens’ clubs and musicals before being cast as Ace, Doctor Who number seven’s feisty companion.

She is also well known for her work as a presenter, especially children’s TV, for her extensive voice work, her podcast, Sophie Aldred’s Ace Odyssey and she has published several books including a novel, At Childhood’s End and an anthology, Ace Jacket.

As pre-production ramps up, we hope to announce more guest stars and launch our crowdfunding campaign to raise funds to produce our 6 part series with B7 Media.

Sophie will join her Doctor Who co-star Sylvester McCoy throughout the series.

“Cops and Monsters: The Year of Peace” will be produced by Silly Wee Films and written by Roland Moore, Fraser Coull, Lindz McLeod, Lorna King, Amelia Nashe and Philip Lawrence.

We are THRILLED to announce that Doctor Who legend Sylvester McCoy has agreed to star in our upcoming audio series Cops and Monsters: The Year of Peace.

Sylvester will be playing the role of Sir Malcolm Sinclair and more details will be revealed in due course…

Well known as the Seventh Doctor in DOCTOR WHO classic series, he was also delighted to be invited back into TALES OF THE TARDIS to celebrate the series’ 60th Anniversary, and THE POWER OF THE DOCTOR celebrating Jodie Whittaker’s finale. And let’s not forget the FIVE(ISH) DOCTORS REBOOT in celebration of the series’ 50th Anniversary. The character is also alive and thriving in his Big Finish audio recordings.

You may also have enjoyed him as Igor in Rob Zombie’s latest telling of THE MUNSTERS for Universal;  or as The Umbrella Man in HEARTSMITH; as The Old Man of Hoy in Lana Wachowski’s cult series SENSE 8, or Dr Huggins in Julius Berg’s psychological thriller THE OWNERS for which he won the Best Actor Award at Frightfest Film Festival 2021.

Oh, and he was in THE HOBBIT you know! Giving his ‘Radagast the Brown’ in Peter Jackson’s THE HOBBIT trilogy.

His TV work ranges from the infamous KEN CAMPBELL ROADSHOW to the Hermit of Hazelnut Cottage, a role written especially for him, in BBC TV’s ever popular FATHER BROWN.  As Archie in the ever loved STILL GAME or as Rab C Nesbitt’s lunatic brother, living in his wardrobe!

Playing the Fool to Sir Ian McKellen’s KING LEAR at the Royal Shakespeare Company took him from Stratford upon Avon onto World Tour; and he is proud Adrian Mitchell wrote the title role in his THE PIED PIPER for him at the Royal National Theatre.

He is currently filming his memoir,  WHO IS THE REAL McCOY, with Film Stories to be released later this year.

Our crowdfunding campaign for the series will be launched in the coming weeks and you’ll be invited to be involved!

New Preview For The Cult of Many Faces!

We are in post-production with our first ever vertical interpretation of the “Cops and Monsters” omniverse with a 6 part series “Cops and Monsters: The Cult of Many Faces”.

When the First Minister of Scotland agrees to give asylum to the vampire, werewolf and zombie community after an incident leaves them exposed to humanity for the first time, it’s up to the representatives from the werewolf and vampire communities to come together and agree on the treaty.

Except… they can’t stand each other! Isla – the Alpha Wolf – believes Finlay – the Vampire Leader – to be arrogant and flouting the rules – whilst Finlay believes Isla to be self righteous and below him.

The Cult of Many Faces – played by Billy Kirkwood

Enter The Cult of Many Faces – a man (or beast?) who is a fixed point in time. Ancient and forever, he likes to keep an eye on the progress of humanity and the supernatural communities. But when Isla and Finlay ask him to mediate their agreement of the asylum treaty, they realise far too late that the Cult has the unusual ability of speaking your most intrusive thoughts.

Chaos… and truths will be laid bare.

We are currently in post-production with our series and we cannot wait to release it out into the world… and hopefully make a few more episodes!

Cops and monsters review

Off The Record have kindly sent us a review for “Remembrance” the opening episode of series 2 of Cops and Monsters.

You can read the review by clicking this link.

Here’s a small extract below:

I liked the opening to the episode, having her get ready adds a bit of normalcy and almost vulnerability to a show that is distinctly supernatural. I also really enjoyed the new intro sequence, it was splashier and cooler, and shows in broad strokes the various elements of the show. You can also see a distinct improvement in the overall quality of production, which is saying something because I was impressed with the quality of the first season, especially considering they are working on a tighter budget than a non-indie production. I liked the distinctly Scottish feel of it, the actors were honest and real, they weren’t trying to downplay their Scottishness and that’s a big plus for me

Philip lawrence returns to cops and monsters

Philip Lawrence, who is part of our series 2 writing team, has returned to pen an episode of our Cops and Monsters audio series.

Philip is currently writing episodes of BBC’s EastEnders and Casualty but his first actual screenwriting commission was for series 2 of Cops And Monsters. He’s always been a massive genre fan with Doctor Who, Star Trek, Buffy The Vampire Slayer and The X-Files among his favourites. He’s even penned a few Doctor Who adventures for Big Finish. But he’s thrilled to have another bite at Cops And Monsters.

I always felt like a bit of an outsider and a freak – I think most of us do – and Cops And Monsters really taps into that with its fragmented society of supernatural sects. It’s such a rich universe, full of complex characters and made with such an obvious love of the genre from Doctor Who to Wolfblood. I was overjoyed to be picked to write for series 2 and I’m so excited to be back again.

Philip’s episode is titled “Adrift” and will feature a couple of returning faces to the Cops and Monsters universe. More details to follow.

Cops and Monsters: The Audio Series!

Whilst we’re in isolation and lockdown, unable to go outside and film new episodes of Cops and Monsters series 2, we’ve decided to use our time wisely and produce Cops and Monsters: The Audio Series!

The 6 part series will consist of 10 standalone episodes set within the Cops and Monsters Omniverse, with familiar characters and brand new faces (or should that be voices!) expanding and exploring new stories.

We will then release the episodes either weekly, bi-weekly or monthly, for a small fee with all monies earned going straight to a chosen charity.

At the moment we’ve secured some of our cast from series 1 and 2 to star in our new episodes and we’re reading a LOT of scripts from writers who have expressed an interest in penning the episodes.

If you’d like to be in an episode with a cameo role or have a character named after you or a loved one, you can join us on Patreon at this link. You simply choose a tier with perks that you like and each month that money is sent to our Cops and Monsters Patreon for us to make new content – whether that be audio adventures, short films or full episodes – or even a comic! Click HERE to find out more.

In the meantime please enjoy “Remembrance” by BAFTA winner Debbie Moon – the opening episode of Cops and Monsters Series 2:

All 8 episodes of series 1 are available to watch now on Amazon Prime and Google Play.
