Cops and Monsters Twitter Banner

Help Fund Our Next Episode!

From today until the 30th of June we are running a Kickstarter campaign to raise at least £2000 so we can shoot our next episode, “Revolution in a Teacup”.

Written by James T Harding, the episode picks up straight after “In Crimson” where we find Maya Hedges racing to rescue her colleague from the villainous Cult of Many Faces. Dangerous werewolf Alexis (aka Lycan A202) continues her murderous rampage, only to find herself stopped by Zoe, a troubled vampire who is ashamed of her lineage, who has a mysterious connection to the werewolf. Meanwhile PITS Commander Norris Fletcher finds himself drowning in a PR nightmare with Maya going rogue!

Our guest stars for our new episode includes Sophie Aldred (Doctor Wh0), Mhairi Calvey (Braveheart), Simon Weir (The Acid House) and Rachel Teate (Wolfblood). We hope to announce who will be playing werewolf supremacist David Brannigan very soon…

In return for your pledges we are offering signed scripts, personalised PITS badges, signed posters, DVDs, walk-on roles, signed photos and much, much more!

Without your support we won’t be able to continue our series so please head over to our Kickstarter Campaign to see what we have to offer.

We look forward to welcoming you to our show and we cannot wait to make our next episode happen!

In Crimson Is Now Available To Watch – Support Our Indie Webseries

IMG_1918

It’s finally here! After successfully hitting our crowdfunding target and shooting the 4th episode of our web-series, “In Crimson” is finally available to watch!

6 Months after Maya Hedges (Ellen Patterson) successfully passed her training, things have not been going well for the new recruit. Struggling to learn the ever-changing protocols for the Paranormal Investigation Team Scotland and balance the working relationship with her ex-boyfriend Martin Carmichael, Maya is feeling the strain. When troubled werewolf Alexis (Innes Anderson) aka Lycan A202 strikes again, it’s up to Maya and Martin to get to the bottom of it, but this is no ordinary crime scene. The Cult of Many Faces is ready to strike and he will take no prisoners…

Co-written by Iain Smith and Fraser Coull, “In Crimson” is the 3rd episode of our volume 1 arc, made up of “The New Recruit”, “Preparing the Weapon” and now “In Crimson”. 3 more episodes are currently being written and we hope to crowdfund the necessary funds to shoot these episodes ASAP.

This is our longest episode to date, clocking in at over 15 minutes! We shot the episode over 2 days in March with our brilliant crew and cast made up of Billy Kirkwood, Innes Anderson, Ellen Patterson, Kenny Boyle, Chris Bain and Karen Bartke.

A behind the scenes featurette on the making of the episode will be available in our future DVD with a shorter version coming to the site very soon.

Episode 4, “Revolution in a Teacup”, written by James T Harding, is in pre-production and we will be raising funds from Monday the 16th of May for 45 days with the intention on shooting for 2 full days in July. Our cast so far include Ellen Patterson, Billy Kirkwood, Innes Anderson, Kenny Boyle, Simon Weir, Mhairi Calvey, Rachel Teate and Sophie Aldred. To find out more about the episode click here.

IMG_2004(rehearsal from episode 3’s “In Crimson” by Ian Smith and Fraser Coull)

As of today episode 3, “In Crimson”, is picture-locked with our sound designer and composer Robert Newth working on the score for the new episode. Our visual effects artist Gareth Knight has one more scene to do (the illusive scene 7!) and then his work will be done. All going well we can release the episode on May 13th 8pm GMT. Our crowdfunding backers will hopefully get a link before the episode goes live to the public. Keep an eye on your inbox!

Episode 4, “Revolution in a Teacup” is currently being written by James T Harding and we will be aiming to shoot it over 2 days in July. Our crowdfunding campaign to raise the funds to produce episode will be launched on the 16th of May. We will have lots of cool and unique perks in return for your support. Again all donations go to paying our crew, the cast, special effects makeup, visual effects, costumes, catering, locations, equipment and post-production. It’s vitally important that we pay everybody for their work and talent. As an independent web-series we have been told by Creative Scotland that they will not fund the web series medium so for now crowdfunding is the source for our funding.

Doctor Who star Sophie Aldred, Braveheart star Mhairi Calvey, Wolfblood star Rachel Teate and River City star Simon Weir will all guest star in episode 4 alongside Innes Anderson, Kenny Boyle, Ellen Patterson and Billy Kirkwood. We are also currently casting for the role of Angus Brannigan, a werewolf supremacist who tangles with rogue PITS member Maya Hedges. We hope to announce the casting in the new few weeks.

Laura Anderson will then be writing episode 5 (Title TBC) which we HOPE to film later this year, again depending on the funding we receive. Show creator Fraser Coull will be penning the final episode of “Volume 1”, bringing to an end this particular PITS story.

Roland Moore and Hannah George are also contributing two spin-off minisodes to compliment the series which we hope to produce later this year or early next year.

We hope to be attending MCM Scotland this September as part of VidFest for the 3rd year running, where we will be holding a Q & A panel and screening a sizzle reel to introduce the show to new fans and we’ll be at our own stall all weekend with various members of cast and crew selling merchandise to help us make new episodes.

And that’s all of our updates for now!

Screen Shot 2016-04-23 at 08.52.35

As of Friday the 22nd of April, our web-series became available to watch on the new international streaming platform, Goofie.

Their UK talent scout contacted us and asked if we’d like to be a part of their community and we were delighted to accept. Hopefully it’ll bring in new fans and supporters of the show from around the world.

Meanwhile episode 4, “In Crimson”, is still in the edit and we hope to release it on the 13th of May at 8pm GMT.

Episode 5, “Revolution in a Teacup” is in early days of pre-production and we hope to launch our crowdfunding campaign on the 16th of May for 45 days to raise the funds needed to shoot and edit the episode.

More news as it comes!

Laura Anne Anderson is an Edinburgh based writer with a Masters in Screenwriting from Screen Academy Scotland. ‘I am thrilled to be part of team Cops and Monsters, and think that the cast and crew of the series are doing amazing things for the genre and the Scottish screen community. It’s also a real pleasure to be able to write for something with such an amazing fan base, and I can’t wait to sink my teeth into the episode.’

Writer’s Biography – James T Harding – Revolution in a Teacup

Screen Shot 2016-04-17 at 10.39.52

Our script editor James T Harding was earlier announced as the writer of our next episode, “Revolution in a Teacup”, which we will be crowdfunding to produce in May, aiming to shoot over 2 days in July.

James T Harding is a writer based in Edinburgh, UK. His previous writing credits include two episodes of Cupid of the Clyde (Subcity Radio, 2014), ‘The Secret’ (short film, 2012) and six episodes of Staircase 22 (Cherwell, 2011). He has an MA in Television Writing from Glasgow Caledonian University. As well as writing Episode 5 ‘Revolution in a Tea Cup’ for Cops and Monsters, he is currently developing a co-written TV series with the BBC Writersroom.
James’s non-writing career spans editorships of Broadway Baby and Stewed Rhubarb Press as well as social media for Touchpaper Television, the production company behind Being Human.
“If even a quarter of the excitement I’m feeling about Episode 5 makes it onscreen, it’ll probably be responsible for multiple coronary arrests,” said James. “The cast and crew are such a fantastic bunch, it’s a real treat to write for them. l feel like they could pull anything off. The producers said I’m allowed to feature a talking severed head… perhaps I’ve just gone power mad.”
“On a more serious note, now is not the best time to be emerging screen talent in Scotland – for actors, writers, and crew alike. Webseries like Cops and Monsters are providing fantastic opportunities for Scottish talent with an international outlook. The support the show has received from the public who donate to our crowdfunding campaigns is mind-blowing. I’m so grateful to everyone who helps make Cops and Monsters happen – we’re gonna blow your socks off!”

IMG_1872

Episode 4, “Revolution in a Teacup”, by James T Harding, is now in pre-production.

Following on from episode 3 (due for release in May!), Maya Hedges (Ellen Patterson) is on a rampage. The Cult of Many Faces (Billy Kirkwood) has stepped up his game of terror, striking at the heart of the PITS team, forcing Chief Inspector Norris (Simon Weir) to take action and bring in new recruit Grace Mackenzie, to assist the team. Meanwhile, Lady Sheena McDairmid (Sophie Aldred) is concerned that Alexis (Innes Anderson) is out of control and steps in to deal with the matter. Alexis however is caught struggling with her humanity when her twin sister, Zoe (Mhairi Calvey), emerges in an attempt to free her family from The Cult of Many Faces forever. The clock is ticking, and not everybody is going to make it out alive…

It is a fast paced, nerve wracking episode that will raise the stakes for everybody in the Cops and Monsters universe!

We’ll be shooting the episode over two days (probably in July!) in and around Glasgow, Scotland. We hope that all of our crew will be returning with our cast and we will be crowdfunding throughout May to ensure that we can afford to pay the team, costumes, props, special effects makeup, locations, equipment, visual effects, sound design, music composition and more! With your help we can make it happen.
